TOP 10 CHALLENGE LADDER RULES
Registration
Joining Top10 Challenge Ladder is easy. Simply fill out the user registration form to create a player profile. Next, find a ladder that is within your skill level, register for that ladder, and pay the registration fee via Paypal. Skill level will be based on your NTRP self-rating.
Starting Rank
After successful registration and payment for the ladder, you will be positioned on the corresponding ladder in order of registration. Your first ladder registration will require no payment.
Making a challenge
Player(s) may challenge any other player(s) above his or her position who is within the legal challenge range. The legal challenge range will contain between 20%- 25% of the ladder members, depending on the size of the ladder. The top five ladder members are allowed to challenge players below them that are in within the top ten “rungs”.
Accepting a challenge
Players have 48 hours to respond to a challenge email, and either accept or decline a challenge. By accepting a challenge you agree to help coordinate the match with your opponent. By declining a challenge you will forfeit the match and will drop 5% of the total number of members in your ladder. For example, if there are 50 members in you ladder and you forfeit you will drop (50*5%=2.5 ROUNDED UP) 3 “rungs” in the ladder. Not responding to the email in the allowed 48 hours will also result in a forfeit of position as described above.
Posting your availability
Players are responsible for updating their availability on their calendar. There will be a 5% penalization for players with more than 14 day between available dates. There will also be additional penalizations of 5%, for every week there after without available playing dates.
Scheduling a match
Users will schedule matches according to players availability on their calendar located in their profile. Challenger is responsible for accommodating their opponent by playing at opponents’ facility, unless otherwise agreed upon.
Playing a match
The standard rules of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) apply to ladder matches. The mandatory method of scoring is based on winning two of three sets, with a tie-break at the end of any set that reaches a score of six games each. In the tie-break, the first to win seven points wins the set, but must win by at least two points.
Posting Results
Both challenger(s) and defending player(s) are responsible for posting match results. Your profile will show a pending status until match results are entered. During this time you will not be able to send or receive challengesuntil results are posted.
Inclement weather
In an event your match is unable to be completed because of inclement weather. Players will be able to declare the match void because of neutral causes, without penalization to either player. Players will then have the option to reschedule their match in the future.
No Shows
In an event your opponent does not show, players must forfeit the player that failed to show. That player will then be penalized and will drop 5% in the rankings.
A player will be considered a no show if he/she arrives more than 20 minutes late from agreed time of match.
Code of conduct
Players are on the honor system and must conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner both on and off the court. Players that produce complaints or behavior that is consistently offensive to other members will be removed from the league.
Referrals
Players will receive a free season for every three players they refer to the site. For referrals to qualify a referred player must not only create a users account but must also register and participate in a challenge ladder.
